Did you know that kids are actually as vulnerable to gum disease as adults are? Have you heard that more and more children are getting cavities? As you might know, brushing your child’s teeth can help you avoid this issue, but would you be surprised to hear that the toothbrush and the toothpaste you pick could be important?
For example, did you know that you should give your child a toothbrush that fits in their mouth easily? If their brush doesn’t fit well, you won’t be able to keep their teeth as clean as you should. Furthermore, if the brush doesn’t fit well, your child might not enjoy brushing.
The type of toothbrush you choose is also important. You should choose a brush that has soft, rounded bristles. If you try to brush with a hard-bristled brush, you could actually hurt your little one’s teeth. On a similar note, your child may want to be involved in brushing when they’re about two years old. Still, they won’t be able to brush hard enough to clean their teeth effectively until they’re at least five.
You should also remember to give your child toothpaste that doesn’t have fluoride in it until they’re old enough to spit their toothpaste out on their own. Also, children don’t need toothpaste designed to prevent gingivitis or to whiten their teeth. Really, they just need a toothpaste with a flavor they enjoy.
